Ice Melt Program

The Conkling Center stresses senior safety throughout all we do.

Safety is important during the winter months especially in the North Country. We like being able to help our 55+ community members from slipping and falling when ice begins to build up on porches and walkways. Each winter, we provide ice melt to the local Senior Centers for distribution. If you are in need of ice melt during the winter months, contact your local senior center in Glens Falls, Hudson Falls, Moreau or Queensbury.

This program began in the 2010 - 2011 winter season and has continued to provide seniors with ice melt to this day.

Over the past five years, 2,295 jugs of ice melt have been distributed, totaling 25,245 lbs. The Conkling Center has funded 89% of the cost with 11% within the past year, being covered by funds received through grants from the GF Kiwanis, LG Rotary and the Washington County Home for Aged Women.

We will be continuing this program in the 2017-2018 winter season.
