Solomon Northup/Tour of the Old Fort Museum and the Museum Campus

The Old Fort House Museum is the oldest wood frame house in Washington County. Constructed by Patt Smyth in 1772, this house served as a military fortification and much more during its years of use. Take a trip back through time as you visit each room in the house. Visit the taven of the 1770s, the living room of the 1830s, the bedroom of the 1850s, and the sitting room of the Victorian Era. Dine in the 1850s and prepare your food in the 1940s kitchen. The Old Fort House also hosts the permanent ehibit dedicated to Solomon Northup. Author of 12 Years a Slave, Northup was married in 1828 and lived here during the first years of his marriage when the Old Fort House was a boarding house.

The Museum Campus also includes buildings and exhibits from the local community.

Grounds are wheelchair accessible, with the exception of the upstairs at the Old Fort.

Fee. $8.00 per person. Check or cash to The Conking Center to reserve your spot.
