 About The

Conkling Center

The Glens Falls Home, Inc. was incorporated in 1899 to provide residential services for aging women. For over 100 years the organization operated a home for aged women on Warren Street in the City of Glens Falls.

After a century of providing extraordinary care and comfort in a home-like setting, The Glens Falls Home Board noted the changing needs of the elderly in the community. The decision was made to build a state-of-the-art independent not-for-profit retirement community with an assisted living component for those requiring more care. A partnership was formed with The Eddy, the residential division of Northeast Health (currently the Continuing Care division of St. Peter’s Health Partners), and the Glen at Hiland Meadows was founded in the Town of Queensbury. The women residing on Warren Street were transferred to lovely new quarters at the Terrace in The Glen complex.

In 2014, it was decided to change the name of the corporation since the original Glens Falls Home as a residence no longer existed. Mary Conkling was the woman who contributed her home for the first Glens Falls Home. Appropriately it was decided to rename the corporation The Conkling Center in her honor.

Today, The Conkling Center offers senior directed programs and services for community members 55+. These include, On-The-Go Transportation Program, Ice Melt Program, and a variety of Programs touching on topics that fall within the areas of Community Awareness, Health and Safety, Legal, Educational and Inter-Generational. We collaborate with individuals and organizations in offering our programs and services to the community.

The Conkling Center is governed by a fifteen-member Board of Directors, four of which serve on the Board of The Glen at Hiland Meadows, along with one elected community member.
